Element-ton (Liepāja)

Element-ton is an artist from Karosta and is well-known and loved around Liepaja. For more than 20 years, he has been expressing his talent in various forms of visual art – graffiti, interior and facade painting, airbrushing, different paintings and wall decoration. His creations adorn the facades of buildings both in Liepaja and Riga, as well as in Germany, Denmark, Italy, etc. Element-ton has taken part in all five Karosta festivals.

Eduards Dubrovskis

On Invalīdu Street near Karosta Prison, you can find a large format mural painting by Eduards Dubrovskis (Latvia). “State powers once left but stump where there was once a powerful tree of our nation; we can now see our history and recognize who we once were through its rings; but our roots are deep and we are growing anew. A dedication to 30 years of independence in Karosta, 1990-2020.”

Action “CHAIR RELOADED 2023”

The students of Liepaja were participating in the “CHAIR RELOADED 2023” campaign. More than 50 Liepaja students from various schools responded to the campaign, restoring chairs both individually and in teams.

Rekha Sameer (India, 2023)

Rekha is an interdisciplinary environmental artist from India. She creates works integrated with the surroundings using various artistic resources, mainly painting and sculpture.

Iveta Trence (Latvia, 2023)

This artist’s installation “Stray Dog of Karosta” was made from paper pulp. This work is intended as a sustainable and environmentally friendly social symbol for Karosta.

Kirubel Melke (Ethiopia, 2023)

Kirubel Melke is a visual artist from Ethiopia whose primary medium of art is fabric. This time, the artist used paper collages instead of fabric, preserving the national colouring of his country.

Nô (France, 2023)

A portrait artist from France, he reproduces the faces he has seen and painted all over the world on walls of cities; people who resist injustice and oppression, gypsies, Indians, children from third world countries. Nô represents these people in all their diversity, reverence and beauty.

Kristians Brekte (Latvia, 2021)

Head of the Art Academy of Latvia Department of Painting, associate professor. Kristian Brekte’s visual language contains references to gothic and black metal subcultures, street art, religion, art history and pop culture. He is fascinated by the dark side of society and in his works he discusses the concepts of death, suffering, sexuality, faith and immorality.

Ivars Heinrihsons (Latvia, 2021)

Wall painting “Horses” (2021): “Being in the gloomy corridors of the underground and imagining the times gone by, there is a desire to hurry up, run away or go shout somewhere. This resonates with my previous motives in painting, where inner unrest, movement and expression play the dominant role.”

Helena Heinrihsone (Latvia, 2021)

All of Helena Heinrihsone’s painting could be described as a diary. Any work is a specific event or experienced feelings from the painter’s life. All of Helena Heinrihsone’s paintings are about Helena herself, but not closed to the viewer. Helena Heinrihsone has the power to paint the deeply personal and to be able to paint it without personal boundaries, where her own joy and experiences become the viewer’s private events and feelings.

Anna Heinrihsone (Latvia, 2021)

Anna Heinrihsone is a costume designer and scenographer who, in parallel with her work in theater, actively participates in the life of Latvian visual arts, has held 13 personal exhibitions and participated in more than 30 painting and scenography exhibitions in Latvia and abroad.

Kim Schmitz Coll (Germany/ Spain, 2022)

Kim made an installation from logs in Redan. “I like to make sculpture seeking that abstract sculpture with smooth and pseudo geometric shapes,  shapes that seem harmonic and forceful, and accompany and enhance materials such as wood and stone,  wanting to convey a feeling of eternity.”

SERGARE (Spain, 2022)

An artistic group from Burgos, Spain. “We are two brothers, Sera and Gare. We start to paint street art more than 10 years ago and we decide to work together and create the group Sergare 8 years ago in 2014. We have painted in different countries, the last one was Taiwan where we spend 9 months developing different artistic projects. For Karosta Festival we decide to paint this mural of a young girl (Cristina), its a picture from a Burgos photographer called Andrea Keynox. We want to remind the people, in this difficult days that we are living, how pure we all are when we are young, we want the people that look at the mural to feel comfortable through the eyes of Cristina. The background, with a gold tone, its to represent the value of that purity.”

Reelika Tooming (Estonia, 2023)

“I work in digitally and traditionally. My current favorite traditional mediums are watercolors and black markers. I have been drawing since I was small. I really liked to draw and to do some sculpting. I was 13. Years old when I made decisions that I am going to do comics. After that I have been constantly draw and creating stories, what haven’t been seen on public. Now I’m working on my own children book and have been illustrating Finnish author children book what comes soon to the sale. My pictures are colorful and creating my artworks I take inspiration from the life. What ever is happy moment or sad moment. I give my best to get the feelings so true as possible. So that the viewers can feel the feelings. Also humor is important place in my life. How we can live a life when we don’t have fun sometimes and we can’t laugh. I don’t have always the happy face, but when someone says really good joke or happens something funny then I laugh. My face isn’t the only one what is laughing. I laugh with whole of my body. Even when I work with my art works I try to put little bit humor into it.”

The sculpture represents two hostile powers and Latvia in the middle as a fragile structure that can nevertheless break free. The message of this composition is that everything in the world must find a balance.

Liga Kempe is looking for contemporary expression in a wide range of constructions, from distinct figurative style to abstract natural landscapes. With picturesque sensual lines, she reveals the mystery of a woman’s intimate world.

This sculptor’s creative work mostly consists of large-format public setting sculptures; the main purpose of these sculptures is to convey their conceptual message to the viewer, while preserving the aesthetic appeal of the work at the same time. His creations are mostly intended as objects of public medium, which, combined with light irony, bring to light politically deeply charged issues such as ecology, gender equality, various forms of discrimination and freedom of ideas and thoughts. Egons has participated in all five Karosta festivals.

Klavs Loris is accustomed to creating large-format works of art, experimenting with different techniques. During this, has developed his own technique, which combines photography, digital printing and classical painting.

Gunta Lante has found herself in figurative art. She gets to know the world through her fellow man, humanity and inhumanity. For Gunta, the human body is like a “language” with the widest possible vocabulary. In her paintings, she uses the representation of the naked body as much as possible, because she believes that every person in this world is naked by nature – defenseless and unadorned.

Cake (Peru)

An artist from Peru. His artwork is based on a fantasy world and aims to appeal to the inner child of the adult viewer. Cake is inspired by Peruvian traditional iconography and caricatures created before the discovery of America.

Syed Sachal Rizvi is an architect, artist, muralist and illustrator from Pakistan. His art practice explores drawing and painting as a means to visualize the temporal nature of active and spontaneous imagination.
